Omitron engineers have provided their operational expertise to over twenty Shuttle Small Payloads, encompassing over 100 experiments, from relatively simple Get Away Special (GAS) payloads to complex secondary and primary Shuttle Payloads. Omitron engineers maintain in-depth knowledge of Orbiter and payload electrical and data handling subsystems to aid in the definition, analysis and implementation of payload requirements from both a mission success and flight-safety perspective. Omitron Operations Directors developed a reputation for excellence within the GSFC and JSC communities throughout their support of the Shuttle Program.

Omitron's work with the Shuttle program came through the GSFC Shuttle Small Payloads Project (SSPP), which specialized in providing low-cost, rapid access to space for scientific and experimental payloads on the Space Shuttle. The SSPP systems were used by a wide variety of investigators from universities and space agencies throughout the world. Omitron worked proactively and interactively with scientists, engineers and Johnson Space Center controllers and planners during every phase of a project; from initial planning and requirements development, payload design, training for operations, simulations and flight operations and data analysis.
